Piet oudolf gardens to visit5/20/2023 Hummelo, also the name of my hometown in Holland, is in the middle of the countryside nestled among farmers. We escaped the city because we wanted to grow plants and we needed space. The founders, architects and people who take care of it make the park unique and hard to compare with any other green space. It is the most satisfying because it is public and in a neighborhood that has evolved so much over the past decades. Of all the projects I designed, the High Line is my favorite. We caught up with Oudolf, to talk about designs, Hummelo (which he and his wife Anja have tended to for the past 30 years) and his personal tips for home gardeners. Written with gardening author Noel Kingsbury, the book is named after Oudolf’s personal garden in Arnhem and is ideal for green thumbs who have been seduced by Oudolf’s deeply beautiful plantings. Decades later, his designs and career are being celebrated in a stunning new book: “Oudolf/Hummelo” (Monticello Press $50). We built huts, climbed trees and freed rabbits from poacher snares,” he says. “We climbed over the fence to a nature preserve every day. Oudolf, 70, fell in love with the outdoors as a young boy. Handout Based in the Dutch countryside town of Arnhem, Oudolf is known for lush, green projects across the US - from Battery Gardens in NYC to Chicago’s Millennium Park - along with projects in England, Ireland and Scandinavia. As the creative genius behind the planting on the High Line, Dutch garden and landscape designer Piet Oudolf is a plant-world rock star.

Julius caesar freeman5/20/2023 Julius Caesar was a master strategist, poet, politician and lawyer. The Emperors of Rome who followed after him could not have chosen a better moniker for themselves, styling themselves after the man who turned a Republic into a dictatorship. The name of Julius Caesar evokes power, one that is totalitarian and authoritative. Needless to say, he was very, very wrong. He believed no one would remember his name in the future, given that he was already the age that Alexander was when he died. He regretted at despite having lived a short life, Alexander had achieved so much in his life that it made Caesar’s life seem trivial. Perhaps the most moving story that survives about Julius Caesar is the fact that he felt shame when he encountered a bust of Alexander of Macedon. Philip Freeman tells the story of a man whose mere name became synonymous with the word emperor, the legendary Julius Caesar. The novel was first published in May 1984, and was quickly followed by its planned sequel Shadows Linger that same year. It chronicles: the last days of the Black Company's service to the Syndic of Beryl on the northern coast of the southern continent the new arrangement with their next employer Soulcatcher who brought them on their fateful journey across the Sea of Torments and, several months of their campaigns and special missions in the Lady's Empire, up to and including the sprawling, bloody Battle of Charm. The Black Company by Glen Cook is the first novel of the Black Company series and the first of the Books of the North trilogy. For an overview of the entire series itself, see: Black Company series For the organization, see: Black Company. 1984) This is the article for the first novel of the series. John bogle little book5/20/2023 The classic index fund that owns this market portfolio is the „only” investment that guarantees you with your fair share of stock market returns. To learn how to make index investing work for you, there's no better mentor than legendary mutual fund industry veteran John C. Common sense tells us-and history confirms-that the simplest and most efficient investment strategy is to buy and hold all of the nation's publicly held businesses at very low cost. Trying to beat the stock market is theoretically a zero-sum game (for every winner, there must be a loser), but after the substantial costs of investing are deducted, it becomes a loser's game. Owning a diversified portfolio of stocks and holding it for the long term is a winner's game. The pinhoe egg5/20/2023 I really liked the characters in this one, DWJ is good at delineating a broad spectrum of people. " More about Cat, and of course Crestomanci being Crestomanci. " Want to read more crestomani " - Tess, I absolutely adore her books and I hope that I keep discovering new ones I haven't stumbled across yet. Grammar takes the center stage and her wise cracks and shenanigans are a riot to read. This one starts off a little faster than a lot of her books do, and the characters, as usual are completely lovable. " Another charming Diana Wynne Jones books. It was not as good as Howl's Moving Castle but still a worthwhile read. Nutcase and Klartch provided endless amusement. The main characters Cat an Marianne were well paired. " when did christopher chant stop playing cricket? that is a story i would like to hear. Overall Performance: Narration Rating: Story Rating:. The Wake by Scott Snyder5/19/2023 In Murphy's hands, Leeward's world is exceptionally well rendered - from her dolphin "sidekick" Dash and her airplane-meets-tree house home to her waterlogged city and beyond. Murphy excels at both the minutia of world building and also the grandeur of an epic worthy of the big screen. If Snyder got most of that out in this issue (which it feels like he has) readers should have relatively clear sailing ahead.įortunately, Snyder has Murphy and colorist Matt Hollingsworth's stunning visuals to handle the massive world building more organically. Snyder does his best to weave it in as naturally as possible, but there's a lot of important information as the story heads into this wildly new world and some of the more awkward information dumps are an unfortunate but likely necessary evil. This installment is a bit heavy on the exposition. This Fine Life by Eva Marie Everson5/19/2023 The author develops the characterswith such grace as she writes about their strengths and weaknesses, which made me enjoy reading about each one. That idea I thought was a perfect setup for a story that would take me through the friendship, heartaches, romances and possible weddings of each woman. I chuckled a bit as I read that each woman was willing to put in their amount in order to purchase the dress and share it. As each one tries on the dress, they know they must have it. They are drawn to this dress and soon find themselves in the store. They discover an exquisite wedding dress expertly displayed in the window of a shop. They decide to go on an adventure and explore downtown. On one particular day, they found themselves off work at the same time. Each woman seems to have different schedules and hardly see each other. The arrangement is a perfect fit for everyone. They are each wanting to make it in the big city of Chicago in the 50's. They all come from different backgrounds, but share a common goal. I received a copy of this book from and Tyndale Publishing for an honest reviewThe book is about five very independent women finding themselves as roommates in an apartment. |
